AWS EC2, Amazon Web Services’ elastic compute service, provides developers with simple and flexible virtual machines, making it one of AWS’s longest-standing services alongside S3. Since its inception in 2006, EC2 has evolved over its nearly 17-year history.

Many newcomers to EC2 often share similar sentiments:

“There are so many types of AWS EC2 instances (hundreds)! Which EC2 instance type should I choose to meet my business needs without exceeding my budget?”

“Do differences in CPU and memory configurations of EC2 instances also reflect differences in performance?” “What payment model for EC2 is the most cost-effective?”

Reflecting on EC2’s initial release with only two instance types available, there are now a staggering 780+ types, making the selection process daunting for developers.
