Recently, I went through my reading list and realized that there are still many books I want to read but haven’t had the time for. My reading speed can’t keep up with how quickly I buy books. I also reviewed my schedule to see where I could carve out more time, but it was tough; I didn’t want to give up any activities.
As an adult, I don’t like making choices, so I wondered if there was a way to speed up my reading. That way, I could read more books in the same amount of time. And you know what? I found a method that works great, is easy to pick up, and doesn’t require years of practice. It’s not one of those techniques where you work intensely and see no progress.
What is Speed Reading
People who don’t read much generally read about 300–500 words per minute. I tested my speed found I read about 1500 words per minute. People who read regularly tend to have a higher reading speed, and with some intentional practice, it’s easy to increase to around 3000 words per minute, which is a speed many can achieve through training. We’ll set the threshold for speed reading at 3000 words per minute.
