Why Doesn’t Netflix Have DevOps Positions?

It is well known that Netflix is the industry’s best practitioner of microservice architecture. Its design of microservices based on the public cloud, continuous delivery, monitoring, and stability assurance have provided the industry with numerous principles and practical experiences to follow.

Netflix introduced certain concepts early and put them into practice, so much so that many other internet companies’ technical architectures also show familiar traces. Whether it’s a case of different paths leading to the same destination or borrowing from experience, none of this affects Netflix’s status as the industry’s best practitioner.

Netflix Operations Status

To be precise, Netflix does not have traditional operations positions. Instead, the role that corresponds to operations is what we know as SRE (Site Reliability Engineer).

However, we know that SRE operations. The core concept of SRE is to redesign and redefine operations work through software engineering methods. This means shifting away from manual operations and instead using tools, team collaboration, organizational mechanisms, and cultural environments to drive change.

It also brings operations, which was previously at the end of the development cycle, back to being on the same starting line…
